Winona’s is a family-run restaurant owned by Cressida Greening and Emir Dupeyron, who originally started it as a supper club in their apartment next door in Northern Bed-Stuy.

I was invited to sample their seasonally driven food and natural wines. We started with their well-crafted cocktails. My dining partner had a Passion Sour ($16) made with pisco, Aperol, Shinola passionfruit liqueur and egg white. I sipped their forest Old Fashioned with housemade mushroom-infused bourbon plus scotch, Pedro Ximenez sherry and chocolate ($16). With our cocktails, we indulged in three must-have appetizers. We got every last drop of their smoked trout dip ($18) with housemade potato chips. Also delicious is their Scotch egg ($11), a perfectly cooked soft-cooked egg enveloped in sausage, breaded, then fried, served with mustard and cornichons. And don’t miss their addictive fried button mushrooms ($18) with a preserved pepper ‘ranch’ dip, although they were great on their own.

For our entrees, we shared the cavatelli verde with squash, sunflower seeds and grated pecorino de fossa ($28) and the New York strip with marinated red peppers ($50) with a glass of the funky Les Sabots d’Hélène, Pif Not Dead’21, grenache/syrah, Languedoc, France ($16).

We added their crispy chips (AKA french fries, $12) and garlicky string beans ($12).

We ended with both their tasty desserts, the lemon posset with a piece of a buttery almond cookie plus their chocolate layer cake filled with mousse and topped with yogurt  ($12 each).

I recommend Winona’s.
