A sail on the North River Lobster boat has been an annual event since it started its excursions in 2014 when the sail was free.

This summer, like last, you must buy a $10 timed pass to sail up the Hudson for 1 hour or on the 7 pm cruise for 2 hours, a sail that goes to the Statue of Liberty and back.  This floating lobster shack offers table service with libations.

We started with Aperol Spritz ($14), a Frozé (frozen rose) and a blue moon Margarita ($16) before the boat left the dock.

This year instead of each of us buying our own classic lobster roll on a potato roll with a mini slaw and a small bag of chips ($31.95), four of us shared the Shelley Roll – a 28-inch classic roll filled with lobster salad, a large cole slaw and a giant bag of chips  ($139.95).  This massive sandwich could have fed 8, with each of us taking a large chunk home after consuming an eighth of it. The bread was too hard to enjoy, and the salad needed a souçon more mayo.

One friend indulged instead in the lobster dinner ($58) with a steamed whole 1 1/4 pound lobster, corn, fries and a small cole slaw.

As always, we enjoyed the sail up the Hudson and each other’s company.

I recommend an outing on The North River Lobster boat each summer.
