After visiting the Frida Kahlo exhibit the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, my friend and I decided to try The Ribbon, Eric and Bruce Bromberg’s latest place to eat. This lively Upper West Side neighborhood place in the lobby offers casual dining with an emphasis on meat.

We ended up sitting in the dark-wood bar area, where I was so ecstatic  that under the bar I not only found a hook for my purse, but a plug for my fading iPhone battery. Would be great if all new restaurants followed suit.

I’d skip the six plebeian baked clams ($19) flavored with andouille sausage and leeks, as they were mostly breading.

The “spit roasted” butchers salad comes piled high, chock full of chopped romaine, bacon, split roasted beef and turkey, mushrooms, tomatoes and a blue cheese vinaigrette ($22.50). A meal in itself. Also try their perfectly cooked hearty burger topped with arugula, onion relish and a sliced beefsteak tomato, accompanied by pickle chips and good fries.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to go to The Ribbon, but would go for some comfort food if in the hood.
