One night recently (before the NY Times had reviewed it!), I met a few foodie friends for a sampling evening at the new Bresline Bar and Dining Room off the lobby in the hip new Ace Hotel on 29th Street, just off Broadway.
Dining with these foodies becomes a huge feast, as the purpose it to try as many things as we possibly had room for — all of course being shared — to sample the cooking of April Bloomfield (of Spotted Pig fame).
For starts we had a tasty but too tiny Beef & Stilton Pie ($6), delicious Scrumpets of shredded braised lamb, breaded and fried served with a mint vinegar ($7) and an herbed Caesar salad with whole romaine, topped with lots of fresh parsley and anchovies ($13).
The not-to-be missed dish: The chargrilled juicy lamb burger on a sour dough bun, served with cumin mayo and thickly cut potatoes, cooked three times for perfection ($17). My beloved Belgian fries in Brussels are only fried twice!
I was too full from the fat-rich food to indulge in the trio of desserts my friends ate, but did sample them. Nothing worth shouting about.
