We chose Terra Ristorante on Greenwich Avenue to commence the weekend’s festivities. Of course, we started with cocktails with a few of us sharing my love of Old Fashioneds ($18). One had their milky rum drink, the Jungle Bird ($16), with rum, Campari, milk and citrus, another the Old School ($16, a tequila old fashioned) and my grandkids sipped lemonade while my pregnant host had a virgin mojito.
We ordered lots, sharing most and digging right in. My daughter-in-law — a sommelier selected our sensuous Tuscan Promis, Gaja, Toscana ($125).
Everything was good, from the wood-fired pepperoni pizza ($25) to the steamed P.E.I mussels ($18) with organic romaine hearts ($15), American Wagyu beef carpaccio ($21), pasta with chicken ($29), and two orders of the crispy potato gnocchi, too ($19, each). We added two of the night’s specials, too. The tagliatelle came with lump crab, asparagus, tomatoes and arugula in white wine ($32) and the arugula salad ($17) with apricots, goat cheese and almonds in a light strawberry vinaigrette. The tender braised short rib “osso buco” ($36) fell off the bone.
The grandkids helped me blow out the candle and eat the molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.
I recommend dining at Terra but try to get an outside table, as the noise inside is deafening.
