Reading about Sosa Borella online, you’ll find lots of references to it being “authentic Italian-Argentinian cuisine.” The Santi ’08 Veneto Pinot Grigio ($48) was Italian, but to me the rest of the fare leans more south of the equator.
The dish I’d recommend is the bife alla sosa borella ($32). A grilled natural corn-fed tender strip steak topped with chimichurri and served with fries.
We chose this restaurant mainly to be close to the Cort Theater to see a preview performance of Arther Miller’s “A View from the Bridge.” (The show opened January 24 for a fourteen-week limited engagement.)
Liev Schreiber plays Eddie Carbone, a Brooklyn longshoreman who is obsessed with his 17-year-old niece Catherine, Scarlett Johansson. Liev Schreiber commands the stage, as does Jessica Hecht as Beatrice, Eddie Carbone’s wife. Unfortunately Scarlett Johansson — in her stage debut — gives a ho-hum mousy performance. She’s better in movies.
Worth seeing!

Sosa Borella was my after work selection to end a stressful work week.
I walked into Sosa asking if the outdoor patio was open and if I could be seated in the patio while waiting for my friend. The manger told me the patio was full and I could not sit on the patio and wait. I asked if there were any free tables and he said yes, two tables. This took place at 7 pm and my friend arrived at 7:20 pm.
I couldn’t believe the hospitality of the manger of Sosa not to allow me to sit in the patio for 20 minutes to wait for my friend. So here is the biggest shock, once we asked to be seated in the patio, it was half empty, only two tables full with guest. I was even more upset that I was lied to be the manger. I am thankful my waiter was being nice and helpful. But that does not make up for the hospitality of the manger. In these tough economic times when less people are dinning out, I would have thought the manager would have been more accommodating. The service staff should give a high priority to customer satisfaction. I am sorry to say this is not the first time I have been handled poorly at Sosa and now this is the second and last time I will patronize this establishment.
I also had “bad” attitude from management there — what is it about a restaurant’s staff when they don’t realize they are in a SERVICE industry??
