There is nothing worse than bad wine, but it comes with the territory. Wine bottles have been sealed with natural cork for centuries, and the product is fallible, so you lose bottles to the air, it’s an accepted fact. The solution? Screw caps we though. But the problem is, some wines do need just a bit of oxygen to mature properly as they age. While winemakers have been flocking to the cap for their whites, it’s just not catching on as quickly with the reds.. and for good reason. Though this all may change now.SilCork

Jamak, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of silicone products, has introduced Sil-Cork®, a wine closure made with a proprietary silicone and natural cork compound.  With extensive testing, Sil-Cork has been designed with all the benefits of a traditional cork, but without the risk of loss or cost of cultivation.  Wines do actually need oxygen to reach their full potential, but there is a fine line between too much oxygen and not enough.  Many wines are spoiled when this balance isn’t reached, resulting in oxidation.  Sil-Cork has shown in tests to have a comparable oxygen transfer rate to that of premium natural cork, and it does this more consistently.  Sil-Cork also has a unique appearance that looks surprisingly similar to natural cork, but it won’t crack, crumble or dry like natural corks. All the good with none of the bad!
