Though Champagne is likely the most famous of the sparkling wines, there are MANY types of bubbly around the world. Spain has cava (among others) while Italy is best known for its Prosecco; a light, fruity, clean aperitif that is perfect on its own, or as a Bellini or mimosa. The origins of Prosecco really began towards the end of the 19th century; when the grape’s popularity led to its continuous growth and production. Today Prosecco di Valdobbiadene is unquestionably one of the best known and most popular of the sparkling Italian wines with Santa Margherita being one of the most prominent producers.
This wine’s nose offers floral notes of peach and honey blossom with pervading scents of apple. This is a very fresh and elegant expression of the Italian classic displaying lively sensations and delicate fruit.
Santa Margherita is truly perfect as an aperitif; ideal with cheese appetizers or any various charcuterie. The young wine even holds its own with more robust fish dishes.
Definitely worth a try in this season of popping the cork.
