Peet’s Coffee & Tea announced the permanent launch of Uzuri African Blend, a rare and unique coffee from East Africa, developed in partnership with small-scale farmers.
This is Peet’s first new permanent blend in eight years, following the launch in Peet’s Coffee Shops and as a special offering in grocery stores. Uzuri (pronounced OO-zur-ee) African Blend brings the distinct coffee flavors of East Africa, the birthplace of coffee, to Americans while benefiting 16,000 small-scale farmers in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia. It is available for $8.99 = $9.99 per 12-ounce bag, whole bean or ground.
Peet’s has donated hundreds of hours of volunteer time in this region, providing thousands of farmers hands-on training to improve the quality of their coffee. As a result, these farmers now earn more for their crop, helping elevate the lives of the farmers and their communities. Uzuri translates to ”excellent” and “beautiful” in Swahili and is a name chosen by the very East African farmers whose beans make up this distinctive blend. True to its name, Uzuri African Blend offers floral and aromatic flavors that are bold and smooth, with undertones of dark berry. As a permanent offering, Uzuri provides coffee enthusiasts an opportunity to explore flavors from a unique coffee region.
