I was invited back to Jones Wood Foundry, a traditional British pub, as they had added a vegan menu they wanted me to sample. I wish this warm inviting pub were in my hood, as I’d frequent it often.
I was eager to again indulge in their chicken livers and foie gras mousse served with grape chutney, cornichon and toasted brioche ($16). I oh, so remembered it from last time. It didn’t disappoint. Do not miss this ethereal dish. We ordered the woodland mushroom arugula salad ($15) drizzled with truffle oil from the vegan offerings, although we asked for the parmesan offered from the regular version. The “Yorky Pudd Pop-Over” ($6) with a stilton dip was too dried out to enjoy.
Then don’t miss the flavorful lamb shank Vindaloo ($28) in Indian spices, chutney and basmati rice, so tender the meat falls off the bone…with warmed naan bread ($3). The roasted cauliflower came not as the menu-described steak, but in a pile atop butternut squash puree along with roasted peppers, mushrooms and edamame out of their pods ($16). I’d recommend that to those wanting vegan fare. Their fries are also irresistible.
Banana lovers should try the banoffee pie with toffee, vanilla cream and candied almond; I recommend the milk chocolate tart for chocoholics.
