Joanne is quite a busy lady! She’s just launched her own line of wines, opened a Mexican restaurant in Sausalito, introduced an app and continues to teach, write cookbooks and appear on air. Her show “Joanne Weir’s Cooking Confidence” appears on PBS, with its companion book being released in November. Her most recent cookbook is “Tequila: A Guide to Flights, Types, Cocktails and Bites.”
Joanne Weir Chardonnay just won a gold medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition; the Cabernet Sauvignon won a Silver in the Sunset International Wine Competition.

“I just launched Joanne Weir Wines. My first two wines are an unoaked 2010 Chardonnay from Sonoma… and a 2008 Cabernet from Napa. ”
I am also teaching in October in the Piedmont in Northwestern Italy. I rented the most amazing villa and take my students to study with me there. It’s everyone’s dream to study cooking in a foreign country, and I’m living out my dream doing it with them.
I’m also excited about my new restaurant, Copita, in Sausalito. Seasonal Mexican and people are loving us. The best carnitas, tacos and ceviche. It’s been a lot of work, but well worth the effort.”
Which food product or gadget would you never give up? VitaMix, because it has the power of a chainsaw; extra virgin olive oil, because it tastes so good; sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes and summer peaches, because they make me happy.
What do you like to serve when you entertain? Prosecco with Aperol with plenty of ice on a hot summer day. Be careful, they are dangerous. I also love making pizzas for people, and my favorite would have to be one with smoked salmon, caviar and crème fraiche. It makes me crazy!
Describe your “last meal?”A pizza margherita at Da Michele in Naples.
What food is your secret guilty pleasure? A bag of salty potato chips. Kettle!
What is your go-to neighborhood restaurant? I love my new little restaurant, Copita, in Sausalito. The first two months I was there every single day. Finally, I took a day off and when I got hungry, all I craved were our fish tacos. It was crazy…. I couldn’t stay away!
What is one food product most people don’t know about, but should? Right now, I am loving anything chipotle or smoked jalapeños. Most people buy it in a can, but I make it homemade and love it. I use it with crema or sour cream on a Kobe steak taco, in tomato sauce for meatballs.
