The first major retrospective in the United States of nanny-photographer Vivian Maier’s extraordinary work is at Fotografiska New York, but it will only be open until September 29, 2024, when the museum closes. Word has it that they are looking for a larger space. This museum currently offers photographic exhibitions by leading photographers and emerging talents.

Four of us went, adding a $5 glass of red or white wine to our admission to sip while perusing the photographs. Afterward, we walked downtown a few blocks to one of my fav Indian restaurants, GupShup.

We started with their pricey cocktails ($19 – $22 each) and two fabulous, not-to-be-missed appetizers. The well-seasoned tandoori cauliflower ($19) is tender and flavorful, better than the one touted at Mizon’s.

I couldn’t get enough of the potato fritters — amritsari chole tiki ($20)— with shredded green apple in the curried chickpea sauce. We saved the plate until we got the plain naan ($7)  to wipe up the delicious sauce. We also sampled the onion chili cheese stuffed kulcha ($12) with black garlic butter, filling enough to be a light meal.

Our entrees included fresh lump crab in garlic butter served with soft rolls ($28) and butter chicken (large order, $36) along with basmati rice ($10)

I recommend a visit to GupShup
