Bonnie came across the neat little foodie find at the Green Products Expo in NYC . There’s something about eco-friendly products that just makes them taste a bit better, almost guilt free. Though gum might not be the first thing you think of when thinking green (or healthy), Glee Gum is certainly worth a bit of your consideration.
Glee Gum is an all natural chewing gum, made from sustainably harvested rainforest chicle. The gum comes in six different flavors: cinnamon, peppermint, tangerine, classic ‘bubblegum’, spearmint, and triple berry and has no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives.. it’s the next generation chicklet; a healthier alternative to synthetic, artificially flavored gums.
Glee Gum’s ingredient list reads less like a science problem than your average stick of juicy fruit. I mean, who really wants to chew on glucose Syrup, Dextrose, Artificial Flavours, Glycerin, Soy Lecithin, Aspartame (5.4 mg/1 Stick)Acesulfame-Potassium (3.6 mg)Hydroxylated Soy Lecithin, and Colour containing Tartrazine all day?
Glee Gum is made from pure cane sugar, rice syrup and natural flavoring, mixed with a natural gum base of chicle harvested from Sapodilla trees in the rain forests of Central America. Glee Gum is pretty much worry free; it’s vegetarian, lactose free, wheat free, gluten free, egg free, yeast free, nut free, and peanut free… It is however, not free. A case will run you $10.. a great treat to keep in your desk drawer or car cup holder for sure.
Verve (the company that makes Glee Gum) actually started with do-it-yourself candy kits. It’s a great little foodie project for the family. Each chewing gum kit comes with chicle, the sap of the Sapodilla, confectioner’s sugar, corn syrup, natural cinnamon and cherry flavors, a pan for softening the chicle gum base, instructions and the story of chicle. Fun stuff, get the kids and make sum gum.

Verve Inc began in 1992, with the goal of restoring chicle to the gum world, a crop that was once the basis of the entire industry. By supporting chicle-harvesting and purchasing chicle, Verve creates a sustainable, natural food business.
I LOVE Glee gum!! I cant eat nutrasweet which is in virtually all gum nowadays and was thrilled to find Glee gum, with plain old sugar in it, at my local Trader Joes. Unfortunately TJ’s discontinued it so now I just buy cases of the stuff from Glee’s website. The cinnamon is my favorite.
I love Glee Gum. It tastes great. I quit chewing gum when they started adding all the artificial sweeteners. We now keep a regular supply of Glee Gum on hand.
Hello i just finished reading an article about Glee gum. You mentioned that it is from the company Verve, inc. Do you have any additional information about this company, such as where they are located because I have found various places on the internet and I do not know which one is correct? Or how it ships it to other parts of the US, such as California…is it by a truck or another method??
Hi Dirsim, Thank you for your interest. You can find out more about Verve Inc on their site, http://www.gleegum.com/about-us.htm. The company is headquartered in Rhode Island, but I am unaware of their shipping methods. You can always contact them directly to find out though.
I had high hopes for the natural gum with no artifical junk in it.
I saw negative comments on the stickiness – which I do not find as a problem at all.
The problem is the flavor starts out great – but 5 mins later – real nasty.
1-8 pieces at the same time (they are chicklet size) – same result.
Sigh.
