We were running late for our reservation at Sixty Vines before heading to the Trisha Yearwood concert with the Nashville Symphony and kept trying to call. Their phone wasn’t working. That didn’t matter to the hostess.

“Sorry, we gave your table for eight away. We could seat you in an hour.” She didn’t care that we could not reach them to say we were running late. That timing wouldn’t work, as we wouldn’t make our concert on time.

Lucky for us, we could all be seated at Eddie V’s around their bar. I started with a “cocktail with attitude.” Blair, our friendly bartender, made my Smoked Old Fashioned ($20), filling the glasses with smoke from smoldering cherry wood and pouring in the Basil Hayden Bourbon and chocolate bitters. Delicious, especially with the hint of the roasted cacao beans. Others sipped various wines by the glass.

We nibbled the warm bread while awaiting our entrees.

Not having enough time for multiple courses, we ordered simply. Four of us enjoyed their Maine lobster tacos, fresh corn tortillas filled with that crustacean and corn pico de gallo ($27 for two). One had their crab stuffed jumbo gulf shrimp ($44) in a lemon beurre bland, another their Seabass steamed Hong Kong style in a light soy broth ($51), another the truffled macaroni and cheese ($16) and an iceberg wedge with crisp bacon, heirloom tomatoes and Shaft’s blue cheese ($15).

Happily satiated, we walked over to Schermerhorn Symphony Center for the amazing Trisha Yearwood concert. She sang Frank Sinatra songs in the first half her own the second. Both parts were spectacular.
