I recently spent a week with the part of my family living in The Netherlands. Hadn’t seen them since the world closed down last March. I decided to share the two restaurants in their hood, one where we had brunch, the other my farewell dinner.
At Kaafi, we stopped for brunch after a morning at one of the many playgrounds in this kid-friendly city.
The service at this specialty coffee and brunch bar was over-the-top friendly. Both egg dishes were good (10.90 € each). Their silky french omelette comes filled with brie, rolled in butter and served on seeded sourdough bread. Our other choice had creamy scrambled Cheddar eggs, with their signature baked beans and crispy hashbrowns drizzled with smoked chipotle mayo and served with brioche. Both came with salad.

At Jules, a French bistro nearby, we started with their green asparagus (10.50 €) topped with a poached egg, hollandaise sauce and shaved curls of tete de moine cheese, sprinkled with truffles and their warm chèvre (10 €) salad with haricots vert, caramelized walnuts, fresh raspberries and crostini. A perfect beginning to my last meal before heading stateside.
Both entrees came with a square of their au gratin potatoes. The slices of rare duck breast (Magret de canard 23.50 €) also came with whipped orange carrots. The poisson du jour was turbot that we requested boned (26 € ). It came with a sauce made from tiny shrimp, diced veggies and crispy capers.
Dessert is not to be missed! Our Mille-feuille au chocolate (8 €) contained chocolate ganache between and atop two crispy layers with fresh raspberries and banana ice cream. Along with that we were served a selection of small bitesize confections and crispy coated chocolates. So French! So delicious.
For sure, I’ll return again during my next visit. That good.
