By the time you read this, David Ives “All in the Timing,” the hilarious six one-act comedies, will have ended its run at 59E59 Theatre. But, David’s bar bites will still be available. That’s David Burke’s at his Townhouse just two block north of the theatre.

The service in the bar was impeccable, but the food mediocre. Everything was served warm, not hot — an annoyance that I let slide as the others were not bothered.

As the waiter brought us each an adorable mini pot filled with breads, an olive and a cornichon, he described the breads as a mini popover, olive loaf and baguette — seems the kitchen forgot to tell him that they were out of the olive loaves! (And, he didn’t notice.)

First were the four short rib cigarettes (beef wrapped in phyllo) with a ($10) with a horseradish crème fraiche, crying for more of the pungent root.  This was followed by the five not-so-angry in-shell prawns ($10) nestled on a spiked disk along with fresh lemon slices and roasted garlic, and the five skewered grilled calamari pieces on a hot stone. Too bad the stone didn’t keep the mollusk slices hot.

The two winners were the truffled fries ($5) and the artisanal cheese with house made condiments and crisps ($18). Both came at room temperature: great for the cheeses, not so for the fries (although who doesn’t like fries, even when not hot!).

Someone should have reminded the kitchen staff that it is “all in the timing.”
