Food Happenings at the New Haven Open at Yale

The fifth annual New Haven Food & Wine Festival Grand Tasting will return this summer alongside the New Haven Open at Yale and will feature more than 20 of the city’s top restaurants.  Local chefs will offer roving diners a chance to sample a selection of menu items complemented by wine pairings.  Participating restaurants for 2012 include 116 Crown, Barcelona, Basta Trattoria, Caseus, The Cask Republic, Claire’s Corner Copia, Geronimo, Gilt, Heirloom, Ibiza, John Davenport’s, Kitchen Zinc, L’Orcio, Miso, Oaxaca, Pacifico, Soul de Cuba, Thali, Thali Too, Union League Café, and Zinc.  The Grand Tasting will be held on Wednesday, August 22 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  Tickets to [...]

New Haven’s First “Street Table”

On a warm summer evening, 75 people gathered in the middle of Orange Street to experience New Haven’s first “Street Table.” I was one of them. The premise: each dinner pays $29.99 to be served a-3 course meal including wine from a participating restaurant.  You don’t know which restaurant will be assigned to you, and you don’t know the menu in advance.  Oh, and major point here…you’re all sitting at one long dining table, in the middle of the Orange Street, in a block closed off to traffic. Annual Oxnard Salsa Festival

Iron Chef Elm City

The Fifth Annual Iron Chef Elm City 2012 will be held Sunday April 22, 2012 at 11:45 am at Delia, the Viking Center of New England in Wallingford. The competition is a battle between three chefs, requiring them to demonstrate their culinary prowess, while testing their skills against each other. Each chef must create an appetizer, entrée and dessert using the “secret ingredient,” sponsored by a CT based food company that is revealed at the start of the competition.
