The Addams Family at the Shubert

The 2013/2014 National Tour of the new musical THE ADDAMS FAMILY, based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, will make its New Haven premiere at the Shubert Theater, New Haven, February 1–3, 2013. The four performances — Friday 7:30pm, Saturday 2:00pm & 7:30pm and Sunday 2:00pm — are sponsored by Lexus of New Haven. This magnificently macabre new musical comedy brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and, of course, Lurch to spooky and spectacular life. Tickets are now available online at shubert.com, by phone at 800-228-6622 and at the Shubert Box Office (247 College Street, [...]

Lenny & Joe’s + January Joiner at Long Wharf

Lenny & Joes's slipped into the space formerly occupied by Leon's (and Rusty Scupper before that) on the water in New Haven around the corner from Long Wharf Theatre. I stopped by this week for a quick dinner before heading to the world premier of Laura Jacqmin's "January Joiner: A Weight Loss Horror Comedy" on Stage II, now through February 10, 2013. Expect the same great seafood and friendly service that you're familiar with from Lenny & Joe's on the shoreline. Don't miss the perfectly seasoned creamy clam chowder (made so with only a splash of milk); it's chock full of clams and potato chunks ($3.95 a cup). Also fabulous [...]

New Haven’s 2nd Street Table

Our Empty Space, headed by Danyel Aversanti, organized its 2ndNew Haven Street Table on a balmy summer evening on High Street between Chapel and Crown.  Following the success of the first table, the event increased attendance from 75 to 100 people, all seated at one long table. Eight restaurants were scheduled to serve various tables assigned to them, and proceeds from the event are being donated to Common Ground High School which promotes healthy eating and environmental awareness. IKEA jumped on board this round and provided colorful table linens and tableware.  At the first street table, the plastic ware was kept together in the paper that you roll coins in.  This time [...]

Michael’s Downtown

Attended Noise On 9 earlier this month to try to support local New Haven merchants. The event — run by a rude older woman - coddled some local bloggers, feeding and imbibing them with wine hoping they'd tweet about it. Sadly, she had little regard for regular attendees. Not a good thing when promoting a city! Since there was little going on, we ended up having a nibble at Michaels's Downtown in the space that Blue Pearl had occupied on Court Street. The appetizer portions are almost entree size. Filling indeed. We shared their fried (actually sauteed) calamari in a spicy Sicilian marinara sauce, replete with capers and fresh scallions [...]
