New Haven (CT) Restaurant Week April 2014

New Haven (CT) Restaurant Week runs Sunday, April 6 through Friday, April 11, 2014, featuring a variety of restaurants and offering prix fixe menus. Participating restaurants will offer three-course prix fixe menus for both lunch and dinner, which include an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Lunch will cost $18, while the dinner menu will cost $32. Mario Batali May Open Restaurant in New Haven

New Havenites bemoaned the sudden closing of Ibiza earlier this month. And so, I'm glad to share with you the possibility of another opening. Mario Batali  — who will be hosting the upcoming Beard Awards in May — just might be opening a restaurant in New Haven. Mary E. Tonewood maple tree adoption program is an opportunity to support small-scale Vermont maple producers and sustainable farming practices. It helps fund small sugaring operations. Adopt a maple tree!  That adoption offers offer small scale producers added financial security and helps to preserve family-owned farms and the tradition of maple production. New Haven Advocate, 1975-2013

MediaBistro reported that New Haven Advocate, 1975-2013 (New Haven Independent), "a weekly newspaper once known for a mix of gutsy investigative journalism, edgy political commentary, magazine-style feature writing, and savvy arts coverage, died Wednesday following a long illness. It was 38 years old. The cause of death was a changed media landscape combined with corporate cluelessness and cupidity."

Texas Monthly Annual BBQ Festival

Texas Monthly will hold its fourth annual BBQ Festival on November 3, 2013 on the City Terrace at the Long Center for the Performing Art at 701 W. Riverside Drive (at the corner of S. 1st Street) Austin, Texas. The event will showcase restaurants from the magazine's ranking of Top 50 Barbecue Joints in Texas. Guest will experience live music and barbecue sampling beside the shores of Lady Bird Lake. New Haven Dining Deals During Yale’s Presidential Inauguration

The South Bay Food Fest, Los Angeles Area

Hawaii Food and Wine Festival September, 2013

The third annual Hawaii Food and Wine Festival takes place from September 1-9, 2013 in Honolulu at The Modern,  1775 Ala Moana Blvd in Honolulu. Walmart Steak-Over Challenge: Atlanta

On Saturday, April 20, local Atlanta firefighters Danny Pinto and Jeff Schultz compete in the Walmart Steak-Over Challenge to determine who has the best steak-grilling chops in town. Attendees will have the chance to join in the festivities, taste Walmart USDA Choice Premium steaks, sample Dr. Pepper and A.1. steak sauce, and cast their vote for best steak. Brazi’s Italian Restaurant + “Curse of the Starving Class”

We stopped for a bite at Brazi's on our way to opening night of Curse of the Starving Glass, a work by the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard (who I met ... and school-girl swooned over... at the Kentucky Derby years ago!) and directed by Gordon Edelstein. Knowing we'd be back there after the performance for the opening night party, we nibbled only appetizers.
