2011 New Haven Food and Wine Festival

The fourth annual New Haven Food & Wine Festival returns Sunday, August 21 - Thursday, August, 25, 2011 during the New Haven Open at Yale giving guests the chance to sample food, wine and and cocktails from more than twenty of New Haven's top restaurants. Events include: BBQ Bash - Sunday, August 21 - 5:00-7:30 pm Taking place at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, this event will feature chefs from 116 Crown, Caseus, Heirloom, Ibiza, Oaxaca Kitchen, Thali, Union League Cafe and Zinc serving up an outdoor barbeque feast. Los Angeles’ Eat Real Festival

Los Angeles’ Eat Real Festival will take place July 16 and 17, 2011 at Helms Bakery in Culver City (located on 880 Venice Blvd, L.A.). The two-day event will run Saturday 10:30 am – 9:00 pm  and Sunday 10:30 am – 5:00 pm. The festival will  include beer and wine gardens, a homemade goods competition, a cookbook swap, a kimchi class where you learn how to make this traditional Korean dish, and more. Miami Spice Summer Restaurant Specials 2011

Miami Spice 2011 - a summer restaurant promotion showcasing Miami’s top restaurants - will run from August 1 - September 30, 2011. Taste of Dallas

The 25th annual Taste of Dallas food festival will take place Friday, July 8 through Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Fair Park located on 1200 S. Second Avenue (Grand Avenue) from 4:00 - 11:00 pm Friday,  11:00 am - 11:00 pm Saturday and 11:00 am - 6:00 pm Sunday.  Participants can sample food from dozens of Dallas' best restaurants including Blue Mesa Grill, Bolla Restaurant, Cheesecake Love, and Dickey's Barbeque Pit. A Grand Ole Soupabration to Benefit Elephant Seals

"A Grand Ole Soupabration" on September 10, 2011 pits Central Coast chefs and restaurants competing for the best soups around, at a fundraiser benefiting Friends of the Elephant Seal (see note), a nonprofit organization. The event will be held at 1155 Cayucos Creek Road, Cayucos, CA from noon to 5 pm. Well-Seasoned Chef Series

The  Atlanta Botanical Garden will hold its  Well-Seasoned Chef Series  - a culinary experience in the Edible Garden Outdoor Kitchen where chefs prepare a four-part tasting menu with food freshly harvested from the Edible Garden - every first and and second Tuesday of the month from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Located at 1345 Piedmont Ave NE the series runs from now through mid-October. Strawberry Festival Hindinger Farm

Hindinger Farm Strawberry Festival will be held Jun 18 from 11 am to 5 pm (Raindate, Jun 19) at Hindinger Farm 835 Dunbar Hill Road, Hamden, CT. The festival will offer hot dogs and hamburgers from Glenwood Drive-In, Strawberry Ice Bream made with fresh strawberries from Kelly's Kone Konnection and fresh strawberry shortcake. Taste of Chicago

Chicago will be throwing a ten-day food festival from Friday, June 24th - Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Grant Park (located at Michigan Ave. & Congress Dr.) from 11:00 am - 8:30 daily. The hours only on July 3rd will be from 11:00 am - 6:00. Annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl

The 29th annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl takes place June 7 - 9, 2011 from noon - 8 pm daily at Boston City Hall Plaza (Located on Atlantic Avenue and Surface Artery South). This event is the largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival. All proceeds go to cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Fairchild’s Annual International Mango Festival

With a pitchfork in one hand and an iPhone in the other, today’s more tech savvy farmers are turning their computers on in attempts to win the Facebook and Twitter generations back to produce. Hey, attention spans are shrinking. The youth have no patience to head to the farmer's market on the weekend, selectively squeezing vegetables to pick the best one. Hey, there is something else more interesting, I'm already distracted. So, what are farmers to do? Let their consumers slip away into pre-packaged buying trends. No, they say. Barrington Hall Cooking Classes

Heading to a cooking class at Barrington Hall, I entered through the back door, straight into the kitchen, like a personal guest at this majestic antebellum mansion in Roswell (GA).  Here, I was greeted by a table set for eight with empty, white plates, like blank canvases awaiting the works of art that were to be prepared during our “Cooking with Fresh Herbs” class at the cooking school.
