I’ve been recommending Electric Lemon on the 24th floor of the Equinox Hotel since my first visit, tasting their chilled deviled crab in creamy ginger dressing with crunchy celery sprinkled with ginger crumbs. Yes, that good.
We stopped for brunch before heading to The Shed to see Steven Sondheim’s — the legendary composer and lyricist — Here We Are, his final musical. He died while writing it. The first act is a musical, the second more of a play.
We commended our brunch with cocktails. Three of us tried the Bloody Mary, and one a “from the garden ($20) with herb-infused Hendricks gin, snow pea, celery, cucumber and shiso.
We shared their New-Fashioned Deviled Crab ($24), a favorite of mine. We also shared a buckwheat sticky bun with pecans and caramel ($6).
Other starters included the Tuna Tabouleh ($26) with fresh tuna layered over a tomato-bulgur salad and six chilled oysters ($23) with a shallot mignonette and toasted black pepper.
Two dining partners had their farm egg omelet ($17) with NY state white cheddar and a lightly dressed green salad; one the eggs Benedict ($22) with smoked ham and black lime hollandaise. The smoked Niman Ranch pork bacon ($9) was for the table.
We ended with coffee ($5.50 – $6.50) before heading across the plaza to the show.
I highly recommend Electric Lemon.
