Big Nick’s Pizza Joint is a reincarnation of Big Nick’s Burger and Pizza Joint that had been located at Broadway and West 77th Street, which moved because of a rent hike. It was Bite of the Best’s contributor Bryan Leblang go-to place when he lived on the UWS. He told me, “I had Nick’s stored in my phone to order from on my walk home from work.”
I was intrigued to try it.
The new place, which is open daily 10 am to 4 am offers huge portions for reasonable prices. The Caesar salad with grilled chicken was enough for two ($13) with a vinegary dressing — not at all resembling the creamy classic one purportedly created by Caesar Cardini. At least the lettuce was all romaine.
The Florentine pizza was more disappointing. A doughy, unsatisfying crust topped with frozen spinach and cheese ($12.25).
I won’t be returning, nor will I add Nick’s number to my speed dial.
