My friend Beth and I are always looking for places halfway between our homes to grab a bite while we yak.
We’ve realized that our halfway point is almost a culinary wasteland, but we keep looking. That’s why I listened when my Fed Ex delivery woman Susan mentioned that she worked some nights at Avanti, an Italian place in Meriden and she recommended I try it.
Since Beth and I were planning to get together, “Why not?” I thought.
The food was fine, but service was excellent, having gone a night that Susan was serving!
We particularly enjoyed the generous-sized baby spinach salad with goat cheese, roasted pear and lots of whole walnuts in a flavorful balsamic vinaigrette ($8.95).
Avanti is nothing to go out of your way for, but if you’re in the neighborhood, give it a try.

Excellent from start to finish. I ordered a few trays for a BD party a few weeks ago. Everything I ordered from Avanti’s was excellent!!! The stuffed breads were gone in a flash. Everyone raved about the Penne Vodka, RB and mushrooms. Delivery person was prompt. Going there soon.
The food is all right. They do have wonderful homemade bread with gaarlic oil. The waitstaff is horrid. There used to be a waitress named Lady and she was the reason we use to go there. She was absolutely wonderful! She was so great that me and my family overlooked the food not being prepared properly and taking too long. Now, there is no reason to go back.
Thanks for sharing.. I agree, the waitstaff sure can make or break a meal! I’ve had wonderful meals ruined by horrid service… and mediocre meals made enjoyable by excellent service
