Earlier this summer, a group of friends and I met at Rockefeller Center for an unusual outdoor summer dining experience. As fans of the amazing Atoboy, we had to grab a weekday reservation for their curated menu of drinks and bites set against a stunning backdrop of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the NYC skyline.

The limited menu consisted of two three-course menus ($57) plus a few extras. Between us, we had ordered both menus and shared the beloved Atoboy fried chicken with peanut sauce (+$22). Everything is served at once on disposable bamboo plates with bamboo utensils to eat with and plastic cups to drink from.

With only a beer and wine license, their cocktails are made with sake. Two of us had the Seoul Spritz ($19) with yangchon, chunkju, cilantro, elderflower and cava. I tried their Von Winning, Sekt, Extra Brut, Pfalz, Germany ($18). Had I realized the drinks were being served in plastic before ordering, I may have tried something else. Bubbly isn’t as enjoyable in plastic.

One menu consisted of tuna tartare with a fried seafood chip; a pork & shrimp stuffed poblano pepper dipped in egg and flour batter then fried served with salsa verde; and a sushi roll sans fish with pickled radish (basically rice wrapped in seaweed).  The other had a spicy cucumber salad with fresh mint with crunchy fishcakes; soft dense rice cakes with chunks of lobster and glass noodle; and cold whole wheat noodles with pinenuts and shredded seaweed.

If you missed the pop-up, I’d recommend a trip to Atoboy.
