We met at The Marshal as my cousin wanted a restaurant near where she parks on West 42nd Street. That and I hadn’t been back or seen Charlie Marshal since the pandemic.
While waiting for my cousin and nephew to arrive, I chatted with Charlie and sipped his version of a Manhattan ($14) that included Five & Twenty Bourbon, sweet vermouth and bitters.
Once they arrived, we began our feast with the finger-lickin’-good wood-oven roasted chicken wings ($15.50) in a chili maple glaze and the red and golden beets, with mesclun greens, NY blue cheese, candied walnuts and sorrel in a white balsamic vinaigrette ($16.50). I recommend both.
Charlie sent out the not-to-be-missed wood-oven baked biscuits served with sour cherry preserves and house churned honey butter (3 biscuits for $8.50, 5 for $12.50) and Sullivan County Farms deviled eggs with Beth’s Farm ramp pesto infused yolks, crispy duck prosciutto and a garlic & walnut pesto (3 eggs for $9, 5 for $12.50).
We then indulged in the yummy smoked duck breast pizza ($24.50) with aged mozzarella, caramelized onions and fresh thyme. And my nephew had the same delicious biscuits this time Benedict style ($18), with two poached farm fresh eggs over a compote of bacon and caramelized onions along with homemade Hollandaise with roasted potatoes and bacon.
Then for dessert, we shared his decadent bittersweet chilled chocolate fudge topped with blue marble vanilla ice cream topped with Andrew’s honeycomb and bee pollen ($12). Worth the calories.
I highly recommend a trip to The Marshal. Consider doing so before or after theatre!
