We stopped in one rainy Sunday for brunch at The Warren in the West Village, a place I had been before attending plays at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. I had never been to brunch, so wanted to sample.

I had a bloody Mary ($16) to start; my dining companion tried the mimosa ($16), wishing she had ordered what I had after seeing my piquant cocktail replete with a spicy side instead of just the rim. Ain’t that always the case?

That’s why we decided to share a couple of plates so no one had FOMO, asking our server to bring them as two courses starting with the Chilaquiles ($18) with two sunny-side-up eggs over tortilla chips dipped in guajillo salsa and topped with crema and queso fresco. I’d recommend.

Not so their twice-fried chicken in honey butter with cabbage slaw and a spicy aioli for dipping ($18).  The boneless small chicken pieces were tasty but an odd combination.

Hearing that the only way to get espresso was in a cocktail, we tried two, their La Di La, a layered drink with that espresso plus tequila, Amaretto and Bailey’s and a traditional espresso martini ($16 each).

A cozy place for brunch.
