I’m always looking for NYC theatre area restaurants to try and suggest. I recently stopped in Nios in the Muse Hotel for a casual bite before heading across the street to Round About theatre to see Amy and The Orphans. It’s the story of siblings heading to bury their dad; Amy has Down syndrome, like the actress (Jamie Brewer) playing her and spouts recognizable movie lines. She’s spent most of her life in state-funded institutions. We learn during the moving play that she had housed been at Willowbrook. (For a complete review on Theater Pizzazz, click here.)
I chose the Sokol-Blosser Evolution Pinot Noir ($14) to sip while looking at the menu. It’s a wine that I select when I see it on wine lists. I do so since the kids (son and Somm daughter-in-law) worked there in the Willamette Valley (OR).
I highly recommend one of the crisp flatbread. We chose the one topped with caramelized onions, fresh figs, preserved lemons, mascarpone cheese, arugula and thin slices of prosciutto ($20). Enough to satisfy.
We also had the poached lobster slider (3 for $29) with greens on small buns spread with tarragon mayo and an order or crisp waffle fries served with garlic aioli and ketchup ($9) before to the early curtain. Although fine, the lobster in them wasn’t as fresh as it should have been.
