After seeing the quite unusual, part musical, part comedy, Ride the Cyclone at the Lucille Lortel, I returned to Burger & Lobster on 19th Street in the Flatiron area to sample their new menu. So glad I did.

I began with their spicy sweet sweet jalapeño cocktail ($12) made with El Jimador Reposado tequila and honey jalapeño syrup; my dining partner had their non-alcoholic Miss Ginger made with peach puree, honey syrup and ginger beer. Considering the size of the completely full restaurant, I was amazed how I could easily hear my dining partner and carry on a conversation.

What caught my eye on another table was a grilled super-sized lobster with 6 people digging in to the crustacean, fries and salad. That’s what I’d order. Our server brought the 4.6-ounce live one to the table before taking it to the kitchen to be grilled. The server recommended 2 pounds per person! It came with unlimited faultlessly cooked fries, a simple nicely dressed salad and lemon-garlic butter ($23 per pound). I highly recommend.

Since we were invited to sample their new menu, we also ordered on The Frenchman, one of their new burgers ($33).  We asked for this 6-ounce Nebraska beef, blended exclusively by Pat LaFrieda to be cooked medium rare. The burger arrived cooked to perfection  and came on a cranberry-jam spread bun, topped with a hearty chunk of grade A Hudson Valley foie gras.  I’d return for that too.

If you haven’t been, I suggest either the burger or the lobster! And I also recommend the original, well-acted Ride the Cyclone.
