Walking home, I’ve meandered past Florian a number of times thinking it looked inviting and I should give it a try. I decided to do so recently, glad we did so on the early side — as the noise became quite deafening by the time we left.
We started with their market veggie antipasto, selecting the eggplant caponata and braised artichokes alla romana from the menu, plus the zucchini parmesan from the specials ($14 for three, or $6 each). The latter was the most delicious, layered with cheese and tomato sauce like lasagne. I’d skip the artichokes, as each of the hearts was too under cooked to eat with a fork; we had to do so a leaf at a time. Not the way I enjoy eating them.
I don’t recommend the braised short rib & meatball pizza ($19) unless you were in a meat mood for something very hearty and heavy. I found both toppings not tender enough to be pleasant on top of a pizza. I’d go back for the thin-crusted pizza, selection the simpler margarita next time.
I liked how the manager walked around with a just-from-the-oven tray filled with complementary warm cookies offering them to guests. Lucky us, he was serving the chocolate chip ones when we finished our meal. As we leaving his offer was oatmeal raisin!
Do stop by for their hospitality and simple Italian food!
