I always check the restaurant bill not only to see whether it only contains what I ordered, but also for pricing. Yes, pricing. I’m glad I did at Isabella’s.

After listening to Aspen Institute’s Walter Isaacson giving the Benjamin Franklin House Robert H. Smith Lecture in American Democracy at the New York Historical Society, we wanted to share some wine and a nibble. Isabella’s offered outside seating, letting us enjoy the star-lit night.

We ordered their chopped salad — cucumber, feta cheese, tomatoes, kalamata olives, chickpeas, roasted peppers and fresh basil in a light white balsamic dressing and the only bottle of Grüner Veltliner on the menu. Simplicity.

When we received out bill, we had been charged $50 for the $41 wine. When I brought it to the waitresses attention, she actually argued, saying she gave us a more expensive wine than listed. Needless to say, we finally got the bill adjusted.

And so I would recommend a visit to Isabella’s, but be sure to double check your bill!!
