Since we had a 7 pm curtain of Eclipsed, my friend suggested we stop by Junior’s for a quick bite instead of “dining.” 
As you’re seated, Junior’s serves bowls of gratis pickled beets, vinegary cole slaw and dill pickles that they’ll continue to refill, if asked. As a beet lover, I ate an entire bowl of the sliced marinated dark red veggie and almost asked for me, but needed to save room for the large sandwiches.
We ordered two of those sandwiches to share, plus a side of big fat steak fries ($4.95). The piled high turkey reuben ($15.95) on rye was warm and tasty but needed 
more than the smidgen of Swiss cheese they had added; we asked for that with warm sauerkraut in lieu of the cole slaw. Our friendly server brought that to us in a separate bowl.
What I liked better was the pastrami on rye ($13.95) smeared with lots of their own spicy mustard, something I hadn’t indulged in in years. When we asked how lean their pastrami was, we learned we could order it however we wanted — fatty or lean. We chose lean, for no up charge.
We laughed when we looked at each other holding a half sandwich dripping with pickled cabbage juices and agreed that you 
should only enjoy these messy-to-eat these with those you know well.
Too full for dessert, we skipped the cheesecake that Junior’s is famous for and headed down the street to the John Golden Theater for the powerful story of captive sex “wives” (slaves) of a rebel commanding officer during the Liberian civil war starring Lupita Nyong’o.
