Eating outside on a boat in New York City always reminds me that Manhattan is an island.
That’s why I’ve been a Frying Pan fan for years, having brought many a New Yorker there to discover that floating restaurant at Pier 66 (West 26th St & 12th Ave).
I’m now sharing my new love, another amazing place to enjoy food, libations and a short sail on the water in the Hudson River!
Having read that the North River Lobster Company had one of the best lobster rolls in the city…I had to try it. One sunny eve, I gathered some friends and headed to Pier 81 to try that sandwich aboard this sailing restaurant.
The food is good, plentiful and reasonably priced. Same with the wines, as a bottle of Gruner Veltliner, Domaine Wachau, Austria is only $36.
The plentiful portion of fresh poached Maine lobster comes in a brioche roll with just a soupçon of yuzu aioli; it’s served with creamy cole slaw and a bag of chips ($16). Skip the chips and order the fries — they’re perfectly crisp and in a hearty portion 
($5).
What’s even more amazing is this boat sails for half an hour every two hours — and there is no charge. That’s right it’s free to board the boat ride for the sail to eat. It’s free, and yes, this is Manhattan.
So shhhhh! Let’s not share this wonderful place to enjoy a fresh lobster roll while sailing in the Hudson River with too many people.
