My financial adviser had been raving about her client’s place on the upper east side. I finally got there for lunch.
We began with their creamy burrata ($16.50), set in a radicchio leave oozing, surrounded by roasted red pepper, thick tomato slices and arugula all drizzled with a rich balsamic vinegar. Perfection. With that we sipped the full-bodied, silky Chianti Quercetto, 2007 ($55).
Jane — one of the owners — and I had talked about their restaurants specialties, and because of that I wanted to sample small tastes of both her mom’s meatballs and the restaurant’s famous chicken parmigiana (a dish that one clothing designer picks up to serve on his learjet!)
Her mini portions were so large, that we cancelled the Dover sole! (Whole portion prices are $22.50 for the chicken parmigiana and $25 for five meatballs with a generous portion of pasta.) Her Mama’s amazingly tender meatballs — a blend of ground beef, pork and veal — come in a sweet homemade tomato sauce, reminiscent of the best Italian food of my youth. Same with the pounded thin chicken parmigiana. Delicious albeit a bit overcooked.
Our veal piccata ($22) was fork tender and lemony as it should have been, and served with grilled zucchini and potatoes.
We ended with a plate of their yummy cookies and a glass of limoncello, a thank you from Jane.
