The location couldn’t have been more perfect. As it was literally right across the street from Bow Tie Cinemas on 23 Street, where we had just seen the moving and thought provoking “Saving Mr. Banks,” starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson.
We ordered a bottle of the Chateau St. Michelle Riesling ($22) and were served a Washington Hills one without the waiter mentioning it. “That’s all we have,” he said when asked. That should have been a hint of what was to come.
The waiter then delivered three appetizers, only two were ones we ordered. He came back moments later, removed the crispy shrimp rolls and served them to another table.
The glutinous (almost inedible) steamed mixed vegetable dumplings were served almost at room temperature along with light soy sauce ($6). At least the spicy chili sauce added some flavor to the fried calamari ($7). The mixed vegetable spring rolls with plum sauce tasted reheated at best ($5).
Even worse (could that be possible?) was the Chicken Bangkok Noodles. The purportedly crispy chicken thighs were neither crispy, nor thighs; their yakisoba noodles and mixed veggies screamed for seasoning.
We left more than half the food. Don’t even consider stopping at Rin! But do see the movie!
