Thistle Hill Tavern is a casual, seasonal tavern serving American fare from Chef Dale Talde, David Massoni and John Bush – the team behind Talde and Pork Slope. Stopped by for brunch recently when visiting friends in Brooklyn.
The kitchen makes both the spicy mix and the pickled veggies for the bloody Marys. I sampled the large ($11), also available in a smaller version ($7). Spicy, but not overpoweringly so.
My friends and I sampled the hearty falafel burger ($12) topped with a farm-fresh egg ($2). That burger’s made with chickpeas, parsley and roasted garlic, served on a potato roll and accompanied by their crisp on the outside, soft inside salt & pepper French fries. A good choice.
The omelette ($12) sounded better on the menu, where it was describe with chorizo, manchego cheese, almonds and chimichurri. Their version is quite thin with very little filling. That is also accompanied by fries or, if you wanted, a salad! I opted for the yummy fries.
Another good option is their kale salad ($13) mixed with Swiss chard, spiced corn nuts, bourbon pear slices and their slaw dressing. We ordered that topped with a farm-fresh egg ($2).
If you’re in Park Slope, stop in for brunch, and — weather permitting — try to get one of the al fresco tables.
