Aureole has begun serving a special Sunday night menu, called Big Mag Boeuf Sundays, offered exclusively in the Bar Room from 5 to 10 pm.

I got to sample this Sunday Supper on a Wednesday afternoon along with some other foodies and Charlie Palmer himself. (I learned that he — like me — is a member of the sons-only club. He has four, I only two!) Charlie wants to offer both New Yorkers and out of towners a replacement for the Sunday Chinese take out.

His special 3-course dinner menu starts with a simple spring salad of petite salad greens, fava beans, English peas, citrus Dijon vinaigrette. Next the cote de boeuf (roast rib of beef on the bone) to be shared by two with sautéed in olive oil spinach and pomme frites; and ending with dark rum Baba Bouchon with chantilly cream and seasonal fruit for dessert. All this is  paired with wine poured from magnums of Château La Vielle, Fronsac, Bordeaux, France 2004. A bargain at $49 per person, especially if you’re wine consumer.
