Get a sneak peek of June’s International Festival of Arts & Ideas at one or more of the activities planned from January 26 through 30, 2009.
If you’re not familiar with it, the Festival — scheduled this year from June 13 to June 27, 2009 — brings together artists and thinkers from around the world and from your backyard to celebrate both commonalities and diversity.
I’m thrilled to be moderating the panel of New Haven chefs, as well as leading both of the restaurant tours. Be sure to get your tickets before the sell out!
Calendar of events:
Monday January 26 at 5:30pm —A conversation on global flavors with some of New Haven’s Top Chefs, held at Union League Café, 1032 Chapel Street, New Haven.
The panel includes inventive and eclectic chefs Jean Pierre Vuillermet of Union League Café, Bun Lai of Miya’s Sushi, Arturo Franco-Camacho of Bespoke, and Denise Appel of Zinc. These “Local Heroes” will discuss how they reinvent the fine food of various cultures at their restaurants. Price: $15, $10 for Members.
Tuesday January 27 at 5:30pm Global Tastes Restaurant Tour: From Europe to Latin America, taste a world of cuisine in one evening (meet at Union League Café, 1032 Chapel Street); $45 per tour, $40 for Members.
Wednesday January 28 at 5:30pm Slow Food Restaurant Tour : Discover the organic, local and sustainable flavors of top restaurants (meet at Zinc, 964 Chapel Street), $45 per tour, $40 for Members.
Thursday January 29 at 6pm Global Trends in Jazz at Firehouse 12, 45 Crown Street, New Haven: 2009 Festival artist Miguel Zenón (a Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow and alto saxophonist with the San Francisco Jazz Collective) will share ideas about his work with pianist Luis Perdomo from his 4tet. Price: $15, $10 for Members.
