Had lunch recently at a small neighborhood French bistrIMG_8364o on the upper east side of Manhattan with a foodie friend.

When my dining partner discussed her need for a gluten-free menu and asked whether the foie gras contained any flour, the waiter promptly said, “No.”

It seemed to me that the waiter heard, but wasn’t listening. I was right. He deliver her sauteed fresh foie gras in a filo (aka flour) cup and her salad topped with bread croutons. So much for a conscientious waiter.

At least my composed Nicoise Salad with all sorts of goodies (hummus, shredded carrots, egg, avocado) and roasted salmon was fresh perfection – and a tad too much to finish at lunch ($16.95).
