On the suggestion of a friend, I tried the Italian neighborhoodasparagu trattoria Le Zie on the corner of Seventh Avenue and 20th Street in Chelsea, asking to sit in the cozy back room.

Service is attentive, but not overly so — meaning it’s there when assistance is needed. We shared a bottle of Domain Jean Bousquet 2009 Argentinian Malbec ($32), made from organic grapes as we perused the menu unnecessarily as we ended up selecting only the evenings specials.polenta

The flavor of the runny yolk of the poached egg dressed the tender white asparagus ($16.95) atop tcannellonihinly sliced proscuitto in brown butter sauce. Also delectable were the tender roasted chiodini mushrooms over truffled polenta ($13.95).

The pasta main course special – veal cannelloni over spinach — was tasty but a tad dry, needing a bit more of the sauce, making it only a slight disappointment ($18.95).

If you live or are around this neighborhood restaurant, for sure give it a try. I’d recommend it highly.
