Met a friend midtown at Fig & Olive before heading to the Manhattan Theatre Club to see By The Water, a show based on one family’s beachside Staten Island house in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

We shared the nicely balanced Château Laulerie Sauvignon Blanc, Bergerac, 2013, ($50) while we nibbled on a selection of crostini (3 for $12).  I’d recommend the caramelized onions on the goat cheese topped with chives, the fig jam topped with Marcona almonds and a slice of Manchego cheese, and the artichokes with mushrooms and truffles, scallions and parmesan. Each unusual and tasty.

We kept on a fig kick, enjoying the namesake fig and olive salad ($19). I’d also recommend these greens with slices of Manchego and Gorgonzola plus figs, apple batons, tomato slices, walnuts and scallions in a fig balsamic and Arbequina olive oil vinaigrette.

Also good is the Mediterranean branzino ($29) served as three —  glazed with fig and aged balsamic vinegar — pieces  atop snow peas with Koroneiki olive oil mashed potatoes.
