The Food and Drug Administration is planning to gradually lower the allowable sodium content in processed foods over the next several years to prevent hypertension and other health problems linked to excessive sodium consumption. This will be the first government initiative to set legal limits on the amount of salt allowed in processed foods.
The government has called on food manufacturers to voluntarily reduce salt in their products, and — as we’ve reported here on BiteoftheBest.com — companies such as ConAgra, PepsiCo, Kraft Foods, General Mills and Sara Lee have already announced that they’ll do so, as I’m sure the companies were aware of the FDA’s plans!
Stay tuned for those details once the government determines those limits. In the meantime, click here for a full story.
I am happy to see that the FDA is finally doing something about this. They have turned the other way on too many issues concerning what is allowed in food products.
Me too!
