The only reason I ate at Carbone Ristorante Italiano was it’s proximity to a class I was enrolled in, giving more time dining with my friend.
Carbone’s has a short, unremarkable wine list, where after sampling a couple of their undrinkable whites, we settled on a bottle of Pinot Grigio. We followed the adage that cheap white wine is more palatable than cheap red.
At least the food was better than the wine. We started with Rollatine Di Melanzane, thin slices of eggplants rolled around ricotta cheese in tomato sauce topped with mozzarella ($12). Also fine is their veal sauteéd in a white wine sauce with capers ($22) served a side of garlicky broccoli rabe. Decent, but nothing to go out of your way for.
