We were having a hard time choosing from chef Jean-Georges’ unusual new menu at his third ABC Carpet & Home restaurant, so we ordered the multi-course “beauty & wellness: tasting menu” ($48).  ABCV — which celebrates vegetables and grains — is next door to ABC Cochina, sharing shares one wall.

The chickpea hummus, green from the Thai basil, came with one small house-made whole grain pita and a cupful of fresh crisp veggies including fennel, watermelon radishes, cucumbers, celery and lettuces. We used some of that crudité to dip in the shallot and herb labneh, which arrived with red pepper dusted cucumber chunks and crispy sunchoke chips for dipping.

The tiny portion of the rich mushroom and barley soup with urfa chili was perfect, as by this point we were stuffed, yet keep tasting.

The next dish contained lettuce cups filled with avocado, really sweet potato chunks, toasted cumin, serrano peppers and lime juice sprinkled with pepitas.

The thin market carrots came in formation, atop some chili imbibed stone ground nut. Don’t miss. Next, we had an unusual plating of both sauteed and fresh leafy greens with whipped sunchoke interspersed.

The beluga lentils and yams came dressed of chili oil and black vinegar and garnished with cucumber slivers.

The only dish I wouldn’t recommend is the wild mushroom burdock noodles with fried tempeh and pickles. The pickles didn’t blend with the dish, nor did I like the texture of the noodles or the fried tempeh. One miss ain’t bad!

When dessert came we asked them to take them home, as the lunch was way too filling. Their tasting menu small portions are huge! We packed up the two vegan desserts: a chocolate mousse, mint chocolate crumble and matcha crème brûlée and left stuffed.
